Penny is an explorer of nature and wilderness. At age fifteen she took a three day winter survival course in the woods of Maine, and was transformed by the acute connection to the power nature has on the mind, body and spirit. She’s happiest deeply immersed in a natural environment and her passion pursuits include hiking, camping, backpacking, biking, skiing and gardening.
Her desire is to bring collaborative adventures to women, helping them to find their strength and their inner voice in the outdoors. She believes in the healing power of nature immersion and how it can support major personal transformation. She facilitates women re-connecting with their inner-self in the outdoors, creating experiences that encourage growth and the discovery of authenticity, courage, self-compassion and joy.
She founded Women’s Wilderness Retreats in 2009 and has led women on trips that include hiking, camping, backpacking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Trained as an Appalachian Mountain Club Hiking leader, a Youth Opportunities Program Backpacking leader and certified in Wilderness First Aid, she is also a trip leader for JUMPinc.org, a New England organization that teaches wilderness and mountain skills to underserved youth. She has completed coursework with Animas Valley Institute in Durango, CO.
